Virtual Reality presents some unique challenges. To make the most of the opportunity the technology offers and create a truly immersive experience, it’s important to make use of the complete canvas.
The School for Life Foundation’s major fundraiser each year is a black tie ball, at which a video update of the Foundation’s schools is usually featured. For the 2017 Ball the Foundation hoped to go beyond regular video and virtually take six hundred guests to Uganda, via the immersive experience that VR provides. VR is rarely suitable for documentary applications and the challenge with this brief was to turn the limitations that come with VR, particularly when it comes to story-telling, into assets. After an initial location recce at the Foundation’s Uganda schools, we devised and scripted a linear story that was especially suited to 360 degree filming.
